The difference that sound makes
Sound can make a huge difference to a video production! Its one of those aspects that many people rarely take seriously. So many focus on the visuals that they forget about the other important elements such as story and sound. Here at Family History Films we take story, sound and visuals very seriously!
Sound recording is not for the faint hearted! You need lots of gear because different microphones are best suited to different environments and even different types of rooms. It also depends on what the person is doing, are they roaming about the house or are they stationary or sat down? All of these things need to be considered to be able to make a great sound recording.
We created a short interview segment that demonstrates some of the microphones we have. We think this is useful if you want to get an idea of how different microphones sound. The recorded sound is just the starting point when it comes to editing a story. We do a lot of editing specifically targeted at audio.
We said earlier that everything is important when making a film, story, sound and visuals. The following demonstrates a number of these important elements. We think that interviews need to look great and they need to sound great too! Its the person being interviewed who tells a great story!
